NEWS, PROMOTIONS, AND EVENTS FROM THE NEW YORKER ADVERTISERS

ACURA AT THE 2013 NEW YORKER FESTIVAL

For the eighth year Acura was the exclusive automotive sponsor of the New Yorker Festival, and this year they took their sponsorship to new heights.

“MADE FOR MANKIND” INSTAGRAM MOSAIC

A one-of-a-kind collaborative mosaic installation was created at the 2013 New Yorker Festival, utilizing Instagram photos from Festival-goers and Acura and New Yorker Festival enthusiasts far and wide.

Over 53,000 photos were submitted for the chance to be featured in the mosaic. As Festival programming took place at Acura at SIR Stage37, a dedicated team crafted the mosaic in real time using Instagram photos uploaded with the hashtags #NYerFest and #Acura. By Festival’s end, 3,200 Instagram photos formed a tapestry depicting Acura’s “Made for Mankind” campaign image.

Watch the installation come to life in the above time-lapse video.

FESTIVAL SHUTTLES

Over 250 Festival attendees enjoyed complimentary rides in the new 2014 Acura MDX on Saturday and Sunday of Festival weekend.

Custom wraps on the shuttles took inspiration from the sculptural Manhattan cityscape used on New Yorker Festival creative.

CARTOON CAPTION CONTEST

New Yorker Cartoonist Carolita Johnson created a cartoon inspired by Acura’s “Made for Mankind” marketing campaign and the 2014 MDX vehicle. The superhero-themed cartoon appeared without a caption, allowing Festival-goers to get in on the fun.

Readers and Festival attendees were able to submit a caption for the cartoon caption contest on NewYorkerOnTheTown.com, at Acura at SIR Stage37 and on iPads in all ACURA Shuttles.

Three winners were selected to win a framed copy of the cartoon and iPad® mini. Click HERE to view the winning captions.

LIFE-SIZE CARTOON

A life-size version of the cartoon from the caption contest was built at Acura at SIR Stage37, providing attendees with a quick, fun photo opp.
