CARNEGIE HALL

Vienna: City of Dreams

Carnegie Hall celebrates Vienna’s artistic legacy in Vienna: City of Dreams, a citywide festival that takes place from February 21 to March 16. The festival features symphonic riches by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, and others; as well as two riveting operas-in-concert, Strauss’s Salome and Berg’s Wozzeck—all part of an unprecedented seven-concert residency by the legendary Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Vienna State Opera led by esteemed conductors Franz Welser-Möst, Daniele Gatti, Andris Nelsons, and Zubin Mehta. There’s also brilliant chamber music and lieder, including Beethoven’s complete violin sonatas and Schubert’s song cycle Die schöne Müllerin, along with fascinating new sounds that are emerging from this historic cultural capital.

During the three-week celebration, the city’s leading cultural institutions also present film series, panel discussions, art exhibitions, and special events.
